West Somerset offers a good balance between unspoilt, quiet countryside, whilst still providing plenty to see and do - whatever the weather! It would be impossible to list everything and cater for all tastes, but we hope the following will prove helpful in planning your stay with us. For those wanting to get away from it all, the Quantock hills and Exmoor offer wonderful walking country - both gentle strolls and arduous hikes. The Coleridge Way, a recently launched 36 mile trail from Nether Stowey to Porlock, passes about 2 miles north. Further information can be found at Quantock online, Exmooronline and Go4awalk. If you have a mountain bike, both areas offer superb tracks at all levels, and is an ideal way to explore the miles of country lanes in the area. Try MtbRoutes.com for more info. Stogumber lies on the route of the West Somerset Steam Railway line, which runs from Bishops Lydeard to the seaside resort of Minehead. The station is 1 mile from Hall Farm, and trains run throughout most of the year. The train is an excellent way of getting to one of the area's nicest beaches, at Blue Anchor.
Working westwards along the coast from the ancient port of Watchet (10 minutes from the Farm), you will find:
Somerset's market town of Taunton lies 30 minutes drive to the south, with shopping, cinemas, 10 pin bowling etc. Just over an hour away by car lies Bristol, home to Brunel's SS Great Britain, theatres, and the excellent '@Bristol', a futuristic blend of interactive science and natural history museums. One hour to the East of Stogumber are the the caves of Cheddar Gorge and Wookey hole.
